Hello!

Welcome to our travel blog.  Follow along on our adventures.

An Epic Draw

An Epic Draw

Oh man. I would have lost a lot, lot, lot of money if I bet on Team Homan (Canada) qualifying for the playoffs. It is stunning really. No medal for Canadian women for the first time since curling was reinstated at the Olympics 20 years ago. That's a big deal.

Bonus question for you playing along at home: which was the first Olympic Games to have curling?

I do appreciate the outpouring of support much of Canada seems to be showing Homan. It's no different then our outpouring of love and support for our Swiss girls in a similar situation. But don't kid yourself- Canada expects to dominate. Jennifer Jones went undefeated in Sochi 4 years ago winning gold. It's true the world has caught up to Canada in curling - but this is a big miss. They didn't even qualify.

With her win, Scotland's Eve Muirhead (playing under the GB flag, at least until Brexit) qualified in her second strait Olympics (bronze in Sochi). Muirhead played a pretty flawless 10th end, forcing errors and making clutch (dare I say also epic) draws. She didn't even need to throw her last stone. On the other sheets, Sweden qualified by beating China and our Swiss friends fought hard for a win against Denmark.

The results of this Olympic field are a little crazy and so surprising. Korea's E. Kim has been playing lights out and qualified first (before Sweden did! And Sweden started 5-0). The Swiss women have struggled and the US women are fighting back looking to force a tie break with Japan later today. It's been wild. I didn't even get close with my pre game predictions.

We're off now to cheer on Shoostie and the boys as they fight one more game to get into the playoffs. They have been playing so well the last few games; it's great to see them on a roll.

And then one last draw tonight to help the Swiss women close out their games strong against Japan (maybe the only time Marissa and I will cheer against the cute girls we. Pro tip; a Swiss win tonight helps Team Roth force a tie break. So all you USA fans should also cheering Hopp Suisse! to help them out.

Hoping I can be part of the team, even if it's only the water boy.

As an added bonus Foot Cardigan sent Marissa and I these sweet new curling socks to sport the last few days we are here. They're pretty great. We know you want some.
